Learn to draw diverse portraits with a fun sketchbook practice! Capturing the personality, expression and mood of a human face can be a challenging subject to master for artists. Following tips and insights gained over years of my artwork practice, you and I will find out what it takes to capture the likeness of someone. We’ll debate the different approaches to portrait drawing, figurative Vs. stylized, and come up with a finely reasoned conclusion. But most importantly we'll enjoy the time we set up for ourselves for drawing!
In this class we demystify the illustration process! Learn to draw energetic portraits, add layers of personality and complexity, dress-up your characters and place them in enchanted settings.
Throughout the class I walk you through my creative process from rough character sketch to character design, from finding the basic elements of energetic poses to illustrating an imaginary scene.
Starting with painting a dynamic portrait, you’ll learn how to make the drawing your own without copying what you see in a reference photo, using it for inspiration and a starting point to your own artwork. You’ll Learn to use masks and shading techniques, draw with the eraser, and paint relatable character in settings that tell a story. By the end of class you’ll be able to illustrate a complete scene around a dynamic portrait with skill and ease.
This class will walk you step by step through adding a fun layer of animated illustration onto a photographic portrait. This can be exported as a GIF straight from Photoshop (lessons 1-10), or students can also learn how to create a video file using the same assets in After Effects, so the video can be shared on social media. (lessons 11-14)
